Farewell Flinner: A Colleague Heads to NYC

June 25, 2010

Join us in saying au revoir to Kate Flinner, Slover Linett’s manager of field research. Kate is moving to New York to pursue a career in museum exhibits, starting with an internship at Thinc Design, a leading exhibition design firm with clients around the world.

Over the past two years Kate has made herself indispensible in several roles at the firm, including field researcher, interviewer, and data analyst. She has managed projects and conducted studies for clients including the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History and Chicago’s Hyde Park Art Center and Merit School of Music. Kate also supervised the firm’s roster of freelance field researchers and collaborated on report preparation.

In addition, Kate worked with Slover Linett partner Peter Linett to transform the book review department at Curator: The Museum Journal, for which Linett is acting books editor. By coincidence, Kate’s new boss in New York, Thinc Design founder Tom Hennes, is the exhibitions editor for Curator. So Kate will continue to perform editorial assistant duties from New York, for which the journal’s editorial staff is grateful.

She also helped plan and develop the firm’s innovation initiative, now called Culture Kettle.

In addition to her work at Slover Linett, Kate was an evaluation assistant at the John G. Shedd Aquarium.

“Kate has been such an asset to us, and a true pleasure to work with,” says Linett. “We’re sad to see her leave us, but it’s always great to watch a talented young person discover her professional niche. Kate is going to make a real contribution in exhibits, and she’ll bring an evaluation sensibility from her time here in Chicago.”

Kate’s internship at Thinc Design begins July 6. She will be assisting the firm’s exhibit developers and designers on a variety of projects like the National September 11 Memorial Museum at the World Trade Center.

Please join us in congratulating Kate and wishing her success in her next chapter. Her email, kate@sloverlinett.com, will remain active.
