Eileen Bevis, MA

Research Analyst

Eileen Bevis is a Research Analyst at Slover Linett Strategies, where she specializes in analysis and interpretation of audience research data for the firm’s cultural and education clients. Eileen’s rigorous social-science skills and theoretical knowledge contribute to both qualitative and quantitative studies.

Before joining the team on a full-time basis in March 2010, Eileen worked with Slover Linett as a freelance analyst for six months. During that time, she made significant contributions to projects for clients such as the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, Minnesota Orchestra, and Seattle multi-arts nonprofit One Reel.

Like other researchers at the firm, Eileen’s work bridges academic and professional perspectives. As a Ph.D. candidate in sociology at the University of Chicago, Eileen investigates the intersection of moral beliefs, behavior, and institutional structures. She has taught in sociology, public policy, and related departments at the University as well as at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois.

Eileen was sponsored by the Fulbright Commission for the Austrian Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture to teach in Austria in 2003–2004, and speaks German and French.

She has also worked as a research assistant at the University of Chicago Survey Lab, a research center that specializes in small research studies for academic and non-profit clients.

Eileen’s research interests are rooted in her undergraduate training at Williams College, where she graduated magna cum laude with a double major in sociology and mathematics. At Williams, Eileen was awarded the Robert Friedrichs Prize in sociology and elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Society. She earned her Master’s degree in sociology from the University of Chicago in 2007 in the course of her PhD studies.

Fun fact: I recently obtained my motorcycle license, fulfilling a decade-long dream of learning to ride.

Born and raised: I grew up in central Florida, which is full of people from somewhere else. As a result, everywhere else sounded interesting, and I developed a love of travel. I have even gotten to live in France and Austria for extended stints.

Early influences: With its outside-looking-in perspectives on society, the science fiction I read as a teenager was excellent preparation for social research. (If you harbor secret hopes for FTL travel in your lifetime, come talk geek to me.)

Hobbies: I am passionate about food, from how to sustain global agriculture to where to find the best craft beer in Chicago. My own kitchen tends to produce a mix of baked goods and Indian cuisine, both of which I like to share with friends and colleagues.

On my nightstand: Always a bunch of good writing, either fiction or memoir. Right now it's stories by Margaret Atwood and Z.Z. Packer, plus Annie Dillard’s An American Childhood. (Scholarly studies are not allowed in the bedroom!)
